CSM20: Declarations of War Ballot

Drag and drop your way to glory at the CSM Voting Page! Not sure who to vote for? Here’s our picks for CSM20:

  1. youngpuke2: A hot take considering Shadow Cartel and Sedition are often at each other’s throat, but the truth is youngpuke has stepped up big time since running for CSM last year and has grown into one of the best CSM candidates lowsec, faction warfare, and the game in general, could hope for. He has organized very active player feedback channels around topics, written white papers and open letters while circulating them around and editing to build consensus, he even helped wrangle other CSMs’ schedule for our incumbent roundtable. He puts the work in the find common ground among players most affected by the issues of the day, helps build a specific but widely acceptable recommendation, and has proven effective at delivering that to CCP in a way they’ll listen to.
  2. Itaer: Speaking of getting CCP to sit down and listen to important changes that need to be made, few outside the CSM have done that. Itaer is one of them. His work on Skyhook raiding balance/re-balance was recent and singular, but Skyhook raiding has been the best new content CCP has added since the FW rework. It could serve as the model for helping to balance Metenox, make other sov and Citadel mechanics more interactive for small gangs, and more. Itaer knows this content model and what makes it great, and has already proven effective at influencing CCP.
  3. The Oz: “Won’t someone talk about the economy?!” Honestly if we don’t re-elect The Oz, probably not. He’s also won the Brisc Rubal Award for Best CSM Representative in convincing fashion. Detail oriented, extremely knowledgeable about the game and economics, and extremely accessible to players for feedback. The only reason Oz isn’t #2 on this list is because Itaer may need a bit more of your help to make it on as a first timer than Oz does as an incumbent. But we definitely need to send this man back to Iceland.
  4. Gideon Zendikar: Gideon is a bit of a Renaissance man, with elite small gang experience, small sov holder experience, large sov holder experience, and wormhole experience. He’s a roamer, a big fight fighter, and an alliance tournament veteran. And he’s got big, well thought out ideas for all of them to make EVE a more exciting and engaging place, even though it might mean some short term discomfort for the currently very comfortable (cough, Ansiblex enjoyers, cough). Power Projection KEEPS coming up in our conversations with everyone passionate enough to run for office, and very few have thought as long or hard about how to solve that as Gideon.
  5. Mick Fightmaster: What youngpuke has done for FW and lowsec space, Mick paved the way through his manner of organizing and doing outreach to wormhole space. He is an extremely proactive CSM and an accessible, effective advocate for a core EVE constituency. Again, only reason he’s lower on this is list is that hopefully WH space at large agrees and will already send him back with their full voting power behind him (and if you, WH player, are reading this put him in your #1 spot)
  6. ThePuce Moose: We need some fresh blood who understands the most important issues facing small/medium PVP groups with fresh ideas and perspective on how to come at them. Puce ticks that box for us and did extremely well in the Challenges Roundtable, where he demonstrated a calm yet confident communication style which will serve him (and us!) well on the council.
  7. Kshal Aideron: Another recent guest, Kshal isn’t just passionate about new players she is experienced and proven effective at building new player organizations that keep them around and engaged. New players and FC are the life bloods of EVE, and she is both. Her tag line this year is my favorite out of any candidate BY FAR: “Getting players to undock.”
  8. Mike Azariah: One of, possible THE?, most experienced CSM players in the game. Ironic considering he spends most of his time focused on new players. But the main reason he’s here is for the time he spends reporting out on the activity of the CSM to the player base on a regular basis. CCP may not get more value out of him that the names higher on this list, but players will.
  9. Janstina Urthadar: A first time candidate from Shadow Cartel, Jan has a very visceral understanding of some of the less visible or glamorous aspects of game design that other candidates are talking about but none the less hold us back from the EVE experience we all deserve. He’s also demonstrated he can hold his ground and maintain composure while going toe to toe with strong personalities and strong opinions.
  10. Dujek Oneeye: From a major nullsec alliance, he’s a very active and reliable CSM rep who collaborates well with everyone regardless of their backgrounds. If you add only one nullsec bloc aligned candidate to your ballot, make it Dujek.

Honorable Mentions: Rots Mijnwerker (if Gideon and Puce weren’t running he’d be in their spots) Drake Iddon (Pochven, very well thought of amongst other CSMs), Limited Liability (Marketing/EVE Growth)

No matter who you vote for, good hunting, citizens!

It’s election time folks! If you’ve been listening to our episodes about Equinox and the subsequent nerfs of its content, you know how important the role of the CSM is in protecting the interests of the community. But we need the right people in the right places! Who are those people? You came to the right place.

DECLARATIONS OF WAR CSM19 BALLOT: VOTE HERE

  1. Youngpuke2: Surprised? If you listened to our Candidate Roundtable you may not be. But some important context we didn’t even get a chance to cover is the work Youngpuke has done behind the scenes within the Faction Warfare community across all the factions and war zones to take in feedback, organize proposals, iterate on them, and successfully submit them to CCP for implementation. This is as close to a proof-of-concept as one can get for CSM and he’s absolutely nailed it over the course of the last 2 years. He’s an FC, he’s a small gang guy, he’s a lowsec guy, he’s a cap warfare guy, and most important: he’s ready Day One.
  2. Mick Fightmaster: Secures second place for his ability and drive to get feedback and actively listen to the voices who want to be heard, even if he needs to put his ear to the ground to hear them. Mick actively asked for a feedback session with the small corps who live in The Reef, new to WH corps with only a handful of players and a heart full of passion. He handled himself deftly in that townhall, handled himself well in our Roundtable, and on the authority of some of the people I trust the most to know what they’re talking about in WH space he’s done that consistently elsewhere. WH need new blood to represent them and Mick has shown he’s got the right stuff.
  3. Gideon Zendikar: Gideon’s run for CSM before but unlike previous years he gets a top three spot. Why? Growth, and a mindset to grow more. Gideon has matured as both a player and a candidate, branching out into other areas of the game and demonstrating a rare thoughtfulness in how he approaches the problems they face. Of all CSM candidates running, he has the temporarily unique experience of going from never held sov to carving out his own area of space under Equinox (fighting to do it, too!). That is EXACTLY the perspective we as a community need in CCP’s ear right now and Gideon’s the guy to deliver.
  4. The Oz: Currently one of EVE’s most formidable economic minds and a popular streamer at that! The EVE economy is a perennially hot topic and the CSM needs someone who understands it deeply. Oz has demonstrated that time and again, as well as continuing to communicating with players and create high quality, informative, and interactive content. On top of that, he’s a genuinely great guy who despite his wealth and e-fame always makes time for others. What more could we ask for?
  5. Machagon (aka Bill Cynabal): One man, one rookie ship, and one dream to play EVE on the hardest difficulty imaginable while sharing it with the world. Machagon has experienced EVE like few before him, without relying on the market or outsourcing the acquisition of even the most complex items. In doing so he’s had to learn the game in great detail. Bill’s Cynabal challenge has captivated and inspired a whole community of players that represent the passionate core of EVE Online. Honestly if Equinox had played out differently, I could see Machagon in the top 3 any other election. Make sure he’s on your ballot!!!
  6. Frozen Fallout: Frozen is a fellow podcaster and alliance partner of Noir. for a long time. He has a deep passion for the community that drives EVE, going so far as to organize one of the most consistently successful player gatherings in the US. He’s a veteran FW player and knows his small gang warfare, but he’s also a man of the people and takes the most joy in spending time with new players using FW as a launching point for their EVE experience. We know him well, we like him, we think CSM will too.
  7. Itaer: A lesser known candidate perhaps but he’s saying all the right things for a small gang PVP CSM candidate and we could certainly use more of those. Give his thread a read, it’s great stuff!
  8. Mike Azariah: Communication is key for the CSM, arguably one of their most important characteristics. No one running has remotely close to the track record on this as Mike Azariah. At this point, aside from giving away supplies to needy noobs, Mike’s EVE game basically IS the CSM. Serving on it, talking about it, living and breathing it. CSM18 has dropped a few balls but talking to players hasn’t been one of them thanks to Mike’s regular and insightful updates. Make him hit a term limit 😉
  9. Kshal Aideron: A CCP pick last year that deserves our votes this year. Kshal is the CEO of EVE Rookies and a key figure in FUN Inc, which as stepped up to be the core hub of NPSI in EVE. She’s done a lot for newer players and for veterans too tbh, and has served well in CSM18. Send her back!
  10. Dujek Oneye: Our final spot goes to possibly the best established-nullsec candidate. Nullsec will win a lot of seats, but do your part to make sure they go to those who will wield that influence and opportunity responsibly. BRAVE is one of the most scrappy nullsec alliances in the game and for Dujek to serve as the Chief of Staff to such a diverse, new player oriented alliance which has been under remarkable pressure for the past few years (wars, moving, etc) he has to know his stuff.

Don’t forget to vote! Go go go!

DoW CSM 18 Ballot

Vote vote vote!

The voting period for the 2023 CSM election has begun and will continue till Sept 11. Thanks to our Single Transferrable Vote system, even if your top choice doesn’t have enough support it that vote trickles down to your next choice until it helps someone get over the line. So vote your heart! And with that in mind, here are our recommendations for your top spots:

  1. Stich Kaneland: Stitch is a very unique player in that he only plays on one character. No multiboxing, no alts. He is an experienced, well rounded small gang player and FC with the ability to engage with players and ideas from other backgrounds and interests in a thoughtful, intelligent way. He’s aced our CSM panels in previous years and very nearly got elected last year. This is the guy.
  2. The Oz: One of EVE’s most prominent economists, Oz is a financier with an impressive background in and out of game. He’s got an incredibly deep understanding of the EVE economy and how all of it interacts. There’s no one I’d trust more to analyze a proposed change to the game and how it will effect prices, supply, and player spending.
  3. Pandoralica: The only incumbent in our top 5, Pando is everything you could want from a big-bloc-FC perspective candidate. He knows what drives fights, escalations, and wars at the highest levels of the game while being a reliable friend to streamers and small gang players alike.
  4. Cael Caderu: An FC for Deepwater Hooligans, Cael has a lot of experience in small to medium sized fleets particularly in lowsec, FW, and acting as a third party to other conflicts. This is his first time running and a relatively unknown from a CSM perspective, but Cael was arguably the most impressive candidate at this year’s DoW CSM panels and he would fit right in on the Council.
  5. Amelia Duskspace: A prolific PVPer, small gang FC, content creator, and AT pilot. Amelia knows the small gang side of the game and can articulately convey that vision to a broad audience, getting technical where needed. He represents one of the more effective medium-sized content creating groups

In roughly suggested order, we strongly advise including these excellent candidates on your ballot as well:

Mike Azariah

Angry Mustache

Storm Delay

Mark Resurrectus

White 0rchid
