How about fix assault frigates, heavy assault cruisers and citadels all at once by making the assault ships strongly resistant to citadel (and EC etc) e-war and void bombs. Then citadels could be attacked by a variety of doctrines instead of just machariels but the defender would have a doctrine advantage. Also it would suddenly make sense that they were called “assault”.
